Mirroring Reality – Implementation in the NomadSed game (continued)
Event Cards Embody External Influences
In NomadSed, these influences are simulated by means of event cards which are based on real-life experiences. They relate empirical findings from surveys of nomadic households in various regions such as Syria, Morocco, and the Tibetan Plateau. These interviews have been conducted over the course of twelve years of empirical social-geographical research in the context of Collaborative Research Centre 586. Because of their authenticity, the event cards are probably the most informative element of NomadSed, providing vivid glimpses into the daily lives of nomads. The following examples (‘Caterpillar fungus’ and ‘Governmental resettlement scheme’) serve to illustrate this principle as they illuminate the respective backgrounds of two event cards.
